When Earthquakes strike, they impose tremendous force and twisting or bumping motions which we feel as tremors. This force puts incredible strain on windows. Causing the frames to twist and turn often times resulting in catastrophic glass failure. When this happens glass shards can be forced out of the frame at high velocity causing severe injuries or even death. Defense safety film can greatly reduce the chances of injury by putting a protective barrier between you and the glass. The film tends to hold broken glass shards together in the frame, reducing the likelihood of injury. This also provides a couple other benefits that you are going to appreciate immediately following this type of event. The first is that you will have very little if any broken glass shards on your floor which may impede potential escape routes and is extremely beneficial if you are barefoot and go running to check on family members. Considering the last 2 major earthquakes that Los Angeles experienced (Sylmar 1971 and Northridge 1994) both occurred in the early morning hours before many people were out of bed. Many parents suffered severe cuts and contusions to their feet and hands hurrying in a panic to get to their children.
The second benefit is also tremendous. Once the event is over we all must deal with the aftermath. Unprotected windows that break leave homes and businesses with no protection from the weather or from looters. The Glass Defense safety film that you wisely had installed on all of your windows gives you the peace of mind that even if the windows broke they are most likely held in place by the film and remain in the frame. This eliminates exposure to the elements and crime. You don’t need to pay over inflated prices to board up your windows. You are safe until the window can be replaced with a new one. Even if no one is inside the structure when an earthquake strikes, you know that you property and possessions are being protected by having the windows remain in place.
While a building's structure may absorb an earthquake's impact, its windows are often unable to sustain frequent tremors or violent movements. Windows can crack or be ripped from their frames, shattering glass into lethal shards that can damage, injure or even kill. The power outages that typically accompany earthquakes only magnify the dangers—making it difficult, if not impossible, to see and avoid harmful glass.
Glass Defense window films can help prevent these events from happening. Our safety films are made from heavy duty polyester film bonded by special adhesives. They can be applied to the interior of new or existing glass. Films reinforce the panes with a virtually invisible source of protection that helps hold glass in place when it shatters under the impact of a tremor or an earthquake—dramatically reducing injury or death from flying glass.
